ISHS Acta Horticulturae 23: I International Symposium on Flowerbulbs

CONTROL METHODS FOR POST-HARVEST DISEASES OF FLOWERS AND BULBS

Author:   R.O. Magie
Abstract:
Carbonated secondary aminobutane (2-ab) and sublimated Daconil (Termil) gave better control of Botrytis disease on cut gladiolus flowers than sprays of captan, Allisan, Daconil 2787, or thiabendazole. When flowers were packed immediately after treatment, 2-ab was most effective since it is volatile. When applied as much as 19 hours after inoculation, 2-ab appeared to eradicate petal infections of Botrytis cinerea Pers. ex. Fr. and B. gladiolorum Timm. Thiabendazole applied to cleaned corms after harvest was more effective than other fungicides in controlling gladiolus corm disease caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. gladioli.
