THE INFLUENCE OF DAYLENGTH ON THE DATE OF FLOWERING, HEIGHT AND CORMSIZE OF GLADIOLUS |

| Abstract:
Four groups of large corms of cultivar 'Lincoln Day' were planted on the 28th of December in 4 separated units, which received the following doses of low-intensity additional light: (A) no extra light (control); (B) two hours additional light between 18.00 – 20.00; (C) three hours additional light between 18.00 – 21.00; (D) two hours "nightbreak" between 24.00 – 2.00 o'clock. Extra light started on 20 January and lasted for 7 weeks. Results: the B-group excelled above all others as to earliness of bloom, height of stem, number of florets, size of produced new corms and quantity of cormels produced. As this is in deviation of many known results we tend te describe these facts to the special relation temperature - light intensity - daylength in this specific climatic region. | |
