ISHS Acta Horticulturae 23: I International Symposium on Flowerbulbs

ASPECTS OF EXTRACTABLE GIBBERELLIN-LIKE SUBSTANCES FROM TULIPA GESNERIANA L.

Authors:   A.A. De Hertogh, L. Aung, A.E. Einert, G.L. Staby
Abstract:
The occurrence and changes of extractable 'free and bound' gibberellin-like (GA) substances from Tulipa gesneriana L. are discussed. Extracts are active in the barley half-seed, dwarf pea, d-5 maize, pea epicotyl, lettuce hypocotyl and Rumex bioassays. Both quantitative and qualitative changes can be demonstrated depending on the environmental treatments, developmental stage of the bulb or tissue sampled, and the bioassay selected. Developing sprouts and flowers are the greatest source of extractable GA's. The following GA's have been tentatively identified from the tulip: GA1, 5, 8, 9, 13.
