GROWTH ANALYSIS OF MONOSTEM TOMATO GENOTYPE IN N.F.T.

Authors:   A. Pardossi, F. Tognoni, P. Frangi, G.P. Soressi
Abstract:
Tomato plants grown at high density with one or two trusses can facilitate mechanical harvesting and increase early yield and economical return. High plant population can be adopted even in greenhouse and soilless culture. A short growth/production period could permit continous, year-round tomatoes production and, regarding hydroponic culture, reduce the risks of diseases of root system. High plant density of tomato crop can be achieved by cutting normal plants above the first truss or by transplanting monostem tomato type with reduce height, lack of lateral shoots and self-stopping at the first or second truss (Soressi, 1982).

We reported here a growth analysis of monostem tomato line 'STU-32228' (figure 1) in Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) under cold greenhouse during spring season in comparison to normal (control) determinate (sp) cultivar ("Candela" F1).
