SOIL MOISTURE INFLUENCE ON THE PRODUCTIVITY OF INDUSTRY TOMATO GROWN IN LYSIMETERS*

Authors:   L. Giardini, R. Giovanardi, M. Borin
Abstract:
The influence of various soil water regimes on the production of processing tomatoes has been evaluated. The research lasted two years and was carried out in lysimeters. The rain factor was eliminated. The irrigations were carried out at the same time in the different lysimeters, each lysimeter receiving a suitably different irrigation depth, corresponding respectively to: 0, 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, and 28 mm. In the two years of the experiment, the ETm of the crop was 876 mm. On increasing the volume of water, the production of commercial tomatoes improved, as did the number of fruits per plant, together with their average weight. However, fruits dry matter and soluble solids decreased. Only slight modifications were found in the composition of the fruits dry matter. The ratio between the relative decrease of the marketable product and the fruits dry matter and the relative evapotranspiration deficit were analysed.
