Abstract:
The aim of this study is the micropropagation of Pepinos (Solanum muricatum Ait). Shoots from seeds were cultured on two media (A and B). Medium B contained the mineral components of MS plus 30 g/l sucrose, 0.01 mg/l naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA), 0.1 mg/l gibberellic acid (GA3), 250 mg/l inositol, 2.5 mg/l thiamin HCl, and 0.5 mg/l benzyladenin (BA). The pH was adjusted to 5.7 and the media were solidified with 5 g/l agar.
This medium gave a higher multiplication rate (4.2) than medium A (3.2). Shoots transferred to the rooting medium, which consisted of half strength MS plus 1 mg/l indolebutyric acid (IBA), had 100% rooting.
