Abstract:
Several factors affecting the regeneration of shoots from leaf cuttings of Begonia x hiemalis were investigated.
Different cultivars varied in their abilities to regenerate new shoots and leaves.
Leaf cuttings from stock plants grown at 21°C:15°C (day:night) were more regenerative than those grown at 31°C:19°C. Light intensity under which the stock plants were grown was of lesser importance.
Larger leaves were more regenerative than smaller, less mature leaves.
Exogenous applications of cytokinins did not improve the regeneration ability of 'Schwabenland Red', 'Renaissance', or 'Balaleika' leaf cuttings under our growing conditions.
