ISHS Acta Horticulturae 226: International Symposium on Propagation of Ornamental Plants

CUTTING THICKNESS AND AUXIN AFFECTING THE ROOTING AND CONSEQUENTLY THE GROWTH, AND FLOWERING OF BOUGAINVILLEA GLABRA L.

Authors:   A.E. Awad, A. Kamel Dawh, M.A. Attya
Abstract:
Bougainvillea glabra cuttings of 3, 5, 7 and 12 mms. thickness and 20 cm. length were quickly dipped in 0, 3000 and 6000 ppm indole butyric acid, the cuttings were immediately planted in peatmoss. The highest thickness and auxin concentration resulted in significant increase in rooting percentage and number of roots/cutting. Number of sprouted buds/cutting were not significantly affected. Other results of branches/plant tended to increase as auxin concentration and cutting thickness increased. However branch length increased under auxin concentrations regardless cutting thickness. Flowers number and weight/plant decreased under the higher concentration of auxin.
