Abstract:
The representatives of sp. Platanus, more specifically of sp. Platanus orientalis L., are tree species more difficult to progagate.
When propagated through seeds, there exists a possibility some of the small and delicate seeds not to germinate, because of the negative influence of extremal natural factors.
Other factors, that hamper the seed propagation of sp. Platanus are: treatment of the seeds before sowing and special care for the young and fragile germs.
So far as the vegetative propagation of sp. Platanus is concerned, the quite contradictory opinions made it necessary to start a research work on this valuable, especially of genetic point of view, way of propagation of this species.
Percentage of rooting is higher and better rhizome is obtained when winter and summer cuttings are taken from younger donor plants.
The percentage of rooting of winter cuttings varried between 89%–100% and with summer ones: between 33%–62%. No stimulators were used during the research work.
The kind of shoot, from which cuttings are taken, is of significant importance.
The cuttings that we got from a reproduction shoot (with floret knotts) showed a minimum percentage of rooting.
Best results of the percentage of rooting of the three studdied species were obtained with Platanus occidentalis, followed by Platanus orientalis L. and Platanus acerifolia Ait.
