IMPROVED GERMINATION OF SEEDS OF CHRYSALIDOCARPUS LUTESCENS (PALMAE)

Authors:   M. Lyhne, J. Hegnelt, A.S. Andersen
Abstract:
Palm seed germination after shipment could be improved by seed treatments with sulfuric acid and acetone. Mechanical scarification gave some improvement, but resulted in wounded embryos. Seed storage at low temperature and humidity is detrimental to germination. Seed storage for two days at a temperature below 5°C killed all the seeds. The germination percentage is reduced after a short time and can be negligible after 6 weeks.
