| Abstract:
It was a real pleasure for me to be able to assist at this first International Symposium on the Propagation of Ornamental Plants. Although our Society has organized earlier meetings on propagation, never before a meeting on this subject had such a large attendance. The initiative of professor Von Hentig to propose subjects as micropropagation, vegetative and generative propagation, and genetical aspects widely found response. Especially the study of commercial aspects of new forms of propagation and the invitation to the more practically orientated members from commercial and industrial firms of the International Plant Propagators' Society have resulted in a very interesting meeting. The Rhine cruise and the wine tasting some discussions could continue. As editor of these proceedings professor Von Hentig did an excellent job with his staff in a rather short period. I hope that many persons active in research and production will make use of the many results presented in this number 226 of Acta Horticulturae. | |
