Abstract:
An outline is given of plant diseases caused by bacteria from the point of view of the ancient origins of bacteria, and also of their epidemiology and control.
Brief notes are given on very recent findings by the author and his research associates about several diseases caused by bacteria infecting Salix, Fraxinus, Philadelphus, Berberis, Lactuca, Lycopersicon, Pelargonium, Solanum, Lolium and Agaricus bisporus. The objective of the review is not to give micropropagators disease control information, but to stimulate them to think again about their procedures aimed at reducing bacterial contamination of plant tissue cultures.
