| Abstract:
This Symposium was organised to provide a forum for the discussion of problems associated with the contamination of plant tissue cultures by bacterial and bacteria-like agents in relation to the production of healthy plants. The Convener sought to bring together plant bacteriologists and tissue culturists and to address such issues as detection and identification of bacterial and bacteria-like contaminants, their effects on culture performance and measures to overcome their effect either by escape, prophyllaxis or chemotherapy. The Proceedings and Conclusions are presented here and it is hoped, specifically, they contribute to the development of strategies to deal with this potential threat to commercial micropropagation.
