FLORAL MORPHOLOGICAL INVESTIGATIONS ON SELECTED LOCAL PLUMS

Author:   D. Surányi
Abstract:
The author has examined some Hungarian local bullaces and plums which were gathered in the Great Hungarian Plain by Nyujtó et al. There were important floral morphological diferences between varieties for petal size, pistil length /PL/, diameter of stigma, pollen germination, stamen number /SN/, relative stamen number /SN:PL/ and absence of pistil, i,e. apistilly.

Four varieties were partially self fertile /with values between 2 and 10 per cent/ for C.806, C.1501, C.1502, and C.1505, and five varieties were fully self-fertile namely C.83, C.1253, C.1422, C.1510 and C.1511.

The year effects were less in the years between 1978 and 1982, than the differences between varieties. As a result the bullace and plum varieties can usually be distinguished by their floral characters.
