ISHS Acta Horticulturae 224: Fruit Breeding

DATA EVALUATION IN THE NATIONAL FRUIT COLLECTIONS FOR THEIR VALUE IN GENETIC BREEDING

Author:   N. Braniste
Abstract:
The pear collection established in 1972 includes 30 Pyrus species, 331 foreign and 121 varieties. The results are recorded for athe main characteristics which are inportant in breeding: blooming and ripening season, tree vigour, fruiting type, fruit size and productivity. For blooming time the gene sources range over a 30 day period. Very early and late ripening charecteristics occur in only few varieties. Pear yield potential is high, about 40 per cent of genotypes having good yield as a dominant character. The best genotypes from point of view of aforementioned characteristics are given.
