Abstract:
The purpose of this work was to determine the directions of changes in the prices of garden products (onions, cabbages, carrots, tomatoes, apples, strawberries) in the period characterized by a very high dynamics of prices.
The analysis was based on annual and monthly weighted average purchasing prices and retail prices in horticultural cooperatives in the districts of Poznan, Konin and Kalisz.
On the basis of investigation results it has been found that:
- The purchasing prices of garden products for the majority of species increased more than twice in the years 1980–1982; this was influenced by a discrete price increase of production means in 1982. The dynamics of purchasing prices of garden products in the years 1983–1986 was distinctly lower.
- The level of purchase prices - both in the annual and the monthly systems - depends on the level of product supply.
- The October prices (period of intensified supply) decrease relatively in relation to the mean yearly prices.
- The prices of garden products are seasonal.
- The increase of retail prices follows in many cases from the increase of margin rather than from the increase of purchase prices, it is particularly visible in the periods of intensified supply.
