AN INFORMATION MODEL AS FIRST STEP TO DESIGN MANAGEMENT INFO-SYSTEMS IN GLASSHOUSE HORTICULTURE |

| Abstract:
The management of glasshouse firms is becoming a complex job. Implementation of new technical possibilities has become a day to day problem with innovations in glasshouse building, climate control, rockwool culture etc. Poor economic results are a stimulant for maximal production and production planning. In the near future the grower needs an integrated information system in order to control his firm. An information model is built for a glasshouse firm and makes clear what information is used in the firm, the information it needs from outside and what the firm makes for others. The model shows the firm as an entity within its environment. The model will be detailed in parts to a level that, combined with a technical specification, can be a basis for system desings. In glasshouse horticulture it was possible to build one broad survey model for a vegetable, a cutflower as well as a potplant firm. Partly the model is not specific for glasshouse firms at all, it is equal to other information models in agriculture. The model is specific for the way of growing and handling products (vegetables, flowers and houseplants) and for central co-ordination of daily work. | |
