ECONOMIC RESULTS CONCERNING THE INTENSIFICATION OF RASPBERRY PRODUCTION IN INDIVIDUAL FAMILY FARMS IN POLAND

Authors:   J. FELSKI, A. BRZEZINSKA
Abstract:
Poland is the second largest producer of raspberries in the world. In 1985 the crops of raspberries in Poland amounted to 38,000 tons what represents 13 per cent of raspberry crops in the world.

Production of raspberries in Poland achieves high growth rates. Over the years 1963–1985 raspberry crops were rising by 9.5 per cent annually. Over the same period the acreage of plantations was rising by 4 per cent annually.

Such high growth rates of production result from the intensification of raspberry production. Hedge technology becomes more and more significant in the cultivation of raspberries. Traditional technology (detached shrubs) gradually declines. When hedge technology is applied in the cultivation of raspberries better economic results are achieved despite the higher level of labour inputs and greater costs of production.
