EFFECTS OF WATERING FREQUENCY ON GROWTH OF CUT CHRYSANTHEMUMS |

| Abstract:
Three experiments were conducted to see how watering frequency affected growth of some cultivars of cut chrysanthemums. The experiments were done in summer, autumn/winter, and winter/spring. Plants were grown in a greenhouse in 8 cm plastic pots (Vefi) with sphagnum peat moss and placed in gullies which were 0.12 m wide and 5.0 m long. Plants had either continuous circulating nutrient solution (NFT) or intermittent watering for 15 min every 3 or 6 hours. In the winter/spring experiment they were watered once or twice a day. Results showed that in the summer and winter/spring experiments growth was better for some cultivars (Rosa Snapper and Sulfur Westland) in NFT than in intermittent watering, while for other cultivars with weak root systems ('Memento', 'Refour') growth and root quality were better with intermittent watering than with NFT. | |
