ISHS Acta Horticulturae 221: Symposium on Horticultural Substrates and their Analysis

ACTION OF SANDOFAN M TOWARD PHYTOPHTHORA CRYPTOGEA

Authors:   L.B. Orlikowski, A. Wojdyla
Abstract:
Influence of Sandofan M (8 % oxadixyl + 56 % mancozeb) on in vitro growth, sporulation, population dynamics of Phytophthora cryptogea in different substrates and development of foot rot on gerbera were studied. The fungicide was used as soil drench at concentration 0,2 % immediately after planting gerbera into artificially contaminated peat, peat with composted pine bark (cpb) in ratio 1:1 or peat + cpb + podsol soil (1:1:1). Population dynamics of the fungus were evaluated during 7 weeks at 7-day-intervals. After one week of the gerbera growing, the number of P. cryptogea propagules decreased about 3 times in peat and in peat with cpb. This tendency was noticed, as well, within the next 2–3 weeks. After 42 days there were no differences between the population densities of the fungus in treated and nontreated substrata. Only in mixture of peat, composted pine bark and podsol soil, the fungus population decreased below initial level and was stabile, both, for treated and nontreated substratum.

Drenching of gerbera with Sandofan M immediately after planting into contaminated substratum or after 3–12 days of cultivation resulted in protection of plants for 16 weeks of growing.
