CONTAINER GROWTH OF PEACH: SOME ASPECT OF NUTRITIONAL AND SUBSTRATE REQUIREMENTS

Authors:   M. Tattini, V. Carmi, R. Tafani, M.L. Traversi
Abstract:
The combined action of different ratios (0.25; 0.50; 0.75; 1.00) between NH+4-N and NO+-3-N, and two different substrates on growth and nutritional status of micropropagated peach plantlets (cv "May Belle") was tested.

The plantlets were grown in pots for 160 days.

The action of the ratio of the two forms of inorganic nitrogen depends on time lapse. Best results were obtained early in the growth season with high NH+4-N/NO+-3-N ratio while towards the end of the cycle higher growth was had with 0.25 and 0.50 ratios. In long term culture a high NH+4 concentration in a brief period of time is suggested. On the whole no substantial difference concerning the substrate was detected. Both nutritive supply and substrate influence leaf content of nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium, with evident effects of antagonism and synergism for NH4+ ion.
