THE OVARY MOULDING DISEASE OF TOMATO-SHAPED PEPPER AND CONTROL POSSIBILITES

Authors:   I. Aponyi, O. Kujáni, B. B. A. Varga
Abstract:
For the last six years occurence of ovary moudling disease has been studied on different Hungarian varieties grown on large areas of tomato-shaped pepper.

The pathogens inducing the disease and their dominance have also been determined. By inoculation experiments, the course of the disease have been investigated. Control trials have also been carried out.

During the years under study, the disease occured with 19–62 %. The development of ovary moulding is caused by Alternaria alternata /Fr./ Keisler in 76–91 % and Botrytis cinerea Fr. in 3–18 %.

During inoculation experiments it was found that the infection occurs mainly at petal opening and the following 18–22 days fruit set.

In laboratory and field experiments good control was obtained with products of iprodion, polyoxin B and procymidon. Treatments were carried out at the beginning of flowering, full flowering and in the phenophase of fall of 70–80 percentage of flowering.
