THE EFFECT OF IRRIGATION ON THE QUALITY AND HARVEST TIME OF SNAP BEANS

Authors:   L. Cselotei, Gy. Varga
Abstract:
The effects of different water supply was studied in a series of trials beginning from 1979 on the growth, development and yield of several snap bean varieties. It has been stated that under the climatic conditions of Hungary the continuous water supply, especially at the period of flower and pod development, is very important to get a yield of good quality. The undisturbed water supply exerts a favourable effect on the quality of snap beans from all points of view: the rate of commercial products grows, regular pods develop which are characteristic to the variety, the pods remain tender for a longer time. Caused by this latter, the possible period of harvest also gets longer without the deterioration of quality.
