THE POSSIBILITY OF DETERMINING IRRIGATION REQUIREMENTS BY MEANS OF PLANT TEMPERATURE

Authors:   L. Cselötei, L. Helyes
Abstract:
At the examination of plant stocks of different water supply - in accordance with our earlier observations -, we perform measurements of foliage temperature by using infrared remote thermometers. From our irrigation experiments with several vegetable species /snap beans, tomatoes, cabbages/, for characterizing the utilisability we now present some connections of our results obtained in 1986 with the snap bean /Phaseolus vulgaris L./variety "Valja" of spring and summer sowing. The results of our measurings performed in snap bean stocks of good and bad water supply /6–18 h/ show that for characterizing the water supply of plants the foliage temperatures measured in the midday hours /13–15 h/ are most suitable.

According to our results the daily /13 h/ values of temperature in case of plant stocks irrigated in different times have reflected the development of plants water supply very well.
