SEEDBED PREPARATION AND SMALL VEGETABLE SEED SOWING BY COMBINED OPERATIONS

Author:   S. Tatár
Abstract:
There has been a demand for combining several operations in agriculture, specially in soil cultivation since a long time. This demand is now getting more and more pressing in field growing of vegetables. The main problem is that germination of small seed vegetables sown directly in field is relatively slow because of the roughly prepared seedbeds that often result in thin emergence. Our new machine built for preparation of seedbeds and sowing allows not only a better percentage of germination, but seedlings are less severly affected by diseases due to a shorter period of germination. Furthermore, a relatively equal maturing of the crops is obtained by this system, having this way, a favourable influence on once-over harvesting.

The machine performing all the neccessary operations at one time either on flat or with furrows besides a better performance reduces harmful soil compaction caused by tractor equipment traffic, too. Another decisive advantage of the system is its narrow track that allows a uniform depth of soil cultivation.

The machine is built for performing 7 operations simultaneously:

  • spraying herbicide on the soil
  • adding starter fertilizer
  • herbicide incorporation with soil pulverizing
  • levelling of the soil surface
