ISHS Acta Horticulturae 22: Symposium on Electricity and Artificial Light in Horticulture

CONCLUSION

Author:   G.F. Sheard
Abstract:
Considering the title of the Symposium "Electricity and Artificial Light in Horticulture", electrical energy is used in two main ways. First to operate control devices and second to generate light and heat. In the first case the consumption of energy is very small, but without it it would be impossible to control the environment in protected cropping with the accuracy that is now demanded. Indeed, it is true to say that the horticultural industry could not operate with any degree of technical efficiency without the use of electricity.
