GLASSHOUSE COOLING

Authors:   P. Chaumier, J. Lebel
Abstract:
The main factors affecting the growth of a plant are nutrition, light, temperature, water and carbon dioxide. When the plants are grown in the open air, it is not possible to control the factors of temperature, light and carbon dioxide.

So for the market-gardener to have adequate control over his production, it is necessary for him to be able to modify climatic factors as efficiently as possible.

The glasshouse allows the creation of a favourable climate and the programming of the crops.

In the glasshouse, the market-gardener has the possibility of varying all the factors of plant growth. In practice, one of the climatic parameters which has limited the use of the glasshouse in summer has been resolved by the establishment of a technique which enables the air temperature within the glasshouse to be reduced.

The purpose of this paper is to present to you the solution adopted in France for cooling glasshouses.
