Abstract:
Losses in onion bulb yield, due to weeds in unweeded control plots, ranged from 27% to 38%. Excellent grass weed control was achieved with pendimethalin and oxadiazon herbicides.
Good to very good grass weed control was achieved with DCPA, oxyflurofen and nitrofen herbicides especially at middle and highest rates.
All herbicides were less effective in broad-leaved weed control.
All herbicides at the middle rates tested gave higher yields compared to the unweeded control, and comparable yields to hand-weeded control treatments.
All herbicides at all rates tested caused no apparent crop injury or adverse effect on onion bulb total soluble solids contents.
