NEMATODES FOUND ASSOCIATED WITH GRAPEVINES AND AREAS OF THEIR DISTRIBUTION IN KENYA

Author:   S.T. Kanyagia
Abstract:
In a survey of vineyards in Kenya, six species and three genera of plant parasitic nematodes were identified. Meloidogyne javanica and M. incognita were the most widespread and predominant species. Scutellonema brachyurum and S. magniphasmum were distributed in the Thika, Machakos and Naivasha areas. Tylenchulus semipenetrans and Rotylenchulus reniformis were the most abundant species in soil samples from Mombasa and Malindi.

Other plant parasitic nematode genera identified were Pratylenchus, Siphinema and Criconemoides. These were sporadically found in various localities and their degree of infestations was very low.
