GROWTH AND FLOWERING OF ALSTROEMERIA

Authors:   . , M. Jesang, K. Waithaka
Abstract:
Propagated Alstroemeria rhizomes sprouted 9–10 days after planting in all three cultivars. 'Carmen', 'Pink Perfection' and 'Marina' started flowering 132, 215 and 245 days after planting, respectively. The percentage of flowering shoots was higher in 'Carmen' followed by 'Pick Perfection' and 'Marina' in that order. The average length of the floral stems were 94.32, 82.93 and 47.02 cm in 'Pink Perfection', 'Marina' and 'Carmen', respectively. Percent marketable cut flowers improved with time, reaching their optimum after 31, 40 and 44 weeks after planting in 'Carmen', 'Pink Perfection' and 'Marina', respectively.
