Abstract:
Utilization of in vitro propagated plant material may be of decisive interest in a breeding program specially in the case of woody plants, for many reasons : possibility of multiplication of a great number of genetically identic individuals, saving of room and time.
Besides, this material can be easily handled to induce mutation or somaclonal variations (ROEST, 1980 ; DURON, DECOURTYE, 1986). This kind of work can only be achieved if a conveniant test is available which allows a reliable screening for the characteristic required in the breeding program.
The elaboration of such a test has been studied in the case of fireblight for rating susceptibility of various genotypes with the aim of screening after mutagenesis or somaclonal variations induction.
