Abstract:
Low chilling pears have an especially long blossom period.
In the central region of Mexico they bloom from September to January.
In this region, fire blight was present in 90 per cent of the trees with a mean flower infection rate of 30 per cent.
In 1983 and 1984, the mean temperature during the blossom period was 18.5°C and 30% of the flowers became infected.
In 1985, the mean temperature was 21°C and the flower infection rate was 50%.
