ISHS Acta Horticulturae 216: III International Symposium on Carnation Culture

EFFECT OF EXPOSURE TIME AND TEMPERATURE ON RESPONSE OF CARNATION CUT FLOWERS TO ETHYLENE

Authors:   E.J. Woltering, H. Harkema
Abstract:
The response of carnation cut flowers (cv. Scania) to various concentrations of exogenous ethylene was determined. The flowers were treated for varying periods of time and also at different temperatures. The ethylene threshold concentration depended on exposure time; the threshold exposure time depended on temperature. The nature of the response versus concentration curves was not affected by exposure time. Similarly, the nature of the response versus exposure time curves was not affected by temperature. Results were also presented in a mathematical model, and the validity of the model is discussed.
