Abstract:
The effect of thiram infusion into carrot seeds by their immersion in acetone or dichloromethane before osmotic conditioning in polyethylene glycol (PEG 6000) on seed germination and mycoflora was studied.
The treated and conditioned seeds germinated better and in shorter time than the untreated ones.
In well germinating sample the use of dichloromethane and conditioning for 7 days gave the best results.
The influence of conditioning on mean germination time was better in poorly germinating sample.
Dichloromethane was more effective than acetone in aiding thiram penetration into carrot seed tissues to protect from mycoflora during osmotic conditioning and to remove Alternaria radicina seed infection.
