SOME INTERESTING ASPECTS OF RECENT AND EXPECTED DEVELOPMENTS IN POTATO STORAGE AND UTILIZATION IN EUROPE

Abstract:
Apart from seed production, potatoes in Europe are utilized for fresh human consumption, processing, stock feed, starch and alcohol production.

There is an increasing interest in utilizing the high value potato crop for human consumption as fresh and processed products. Potatoes for this purpose require high demands to the quality and therefore good storage is essential.

It is also obvious that seed potatoes have to be stored well, in order to achieve optimal growth vigour at the time of planting. In view of the high demands to quality potato storage has been improved in Europe.

Some interesting aspects of recent and future developments in utilization and storage are discussed.
