| Abstract:
By means of periodic subcultures maintained during 3 years of shoots taken from the same shoot tip isolated in vitro, we have produced a banana plant shoot stock. The propagaion rate registered on the subsequent subcultures was irregular; even in the same subculture each explant might have a different amount of shoots. These differences could have been caused by the appearance in the culture of shoots of different morphology and organogenetic capacity. The utilization of protocorm-like shoot structures, shoots obtained from old stem fragments or from lateral buds that may have emitted the orthogonal leaf, could be the cause of observed variability in the rate of multiplication. | |
