ISHS Acta Horticulturae 212: Symposium on In Vitro Problems Related to Mass Propagation of Horticultural Plants

HOMOGENITY AND PLANT QUALITY OF IN VITRO PROPAGATED NEPHROLEPIS EXALTATA 'BOSTONIENSIS'

Authors:   A.K. Borgen, S.K. Næss
Abstract:
Runner tips of Nephrolepis exaltata 'Bostoniensis' were inoculated on 4 different initiation media for 5 weeks. The rest of the culture (6 subcultures) were grown on the same proliferation medium (Soede, 1981). Each treatment was transferred to peat/perlite when a new subculture begun.

The salt concentration, content of NaP, Kinetin and IAA in the initiation medium influenced the homogenity and quality of the plants as well as the frequency of dwarfy plants. The number of plants obtained per runner was also affected by the initiation medium content. The number of subcultures (6) did not increase frequency of off-type plants.
