| Abstract:
Grapevine micropropagation has been achieved by means of micro-cutting technique for three clones of "Corvina Veronese" (Vitis vinifera L.). This method is technically reliable and gives low risk of genetic variation. However, observing the behaviour of micropropagated plants under field conditions, we found some important phenotypical difference compared to traditionally propagated plants of the same age. The leaf is different in shape and pubescence; the shoots and leaves are more red; the clusters are smaller, closed and not winged; and the fertility is lower so that production is delayed at least for 1 year. Even if these modifications decline or disappear with aging in the field, we consider the micropropagation technique unsatisfactory unless procedures can be found to prevent such abnormal phenotypical behaviour. | |
