ISHS Acta Horticulturae 212: Symposium on In Vitro Problems Related to Mass Propagation of Horticultural Plants

VITRIFICATION PROBLEM IN THE IN VITRO CULTURE OF FRUIT TREE ROOTSTOCKS

Author:   T. Orlikowska
Abstract:
The effect of different levels of BAP, NAA, agar, sucrose, a double dose of MgSO4 as well as addition of phloroglucinol and adenine sulfate to the occurrence of vitrification and shoot proliferation in cultures of dwarfing apple rootstocks P 2 and P 13, and pear rootstock - quince S 1 are given and discussed. To the list of factors named in the literature promoting the occurrence of vitrification we should add the presence of PG to the medium. In addition to the factors known to limit this phenomenon we recommend a higher level of sucrose and a double dose of MgSO4.
