CONTROL OF VITRIFICATION AND HYPOLIGNIFICATION PROCESS IN SALIX BABYLONICA CULTURED IN VITRO

Abstract:
The phenomenon of vitrification was induced and controlled in a woody species cultured in vitro. The model used (Salix babylonica) enabled the role of ammonium ions in the appearance of this phenomenon to be shown. Glassiness is associated with hypolignification.

As a whole, the biochemical stages making up the lignification pathway are affected by the appearance of glassiness. A major decrease is observed at the level of lignin content, and at that of the following enzyme capacities: phenylalanine ammonia-lyase, hydroxycinnamate: CoA ligase, coniferyl alcohol dehydrogenase and peroxidases.
