ISHS Acta Horticulturae 21: I East African Horticultural Symposium

THE NEED FOR HORTICULTURAL TRAINING IN UGANDA

Author:   Mary M. Odedo
Abstract:
The soils and climatic conditions in many parts of Uganda are favourable to the cultivation of a wide range of horticultural crops, including vegetables, fruit and ornamental plants.

Training programmes are becoming necessary in order to maintain a regular supply of personnel with a sound knowledge of horticultural techniques to extension services, colleges, schools and private sector organizations.

These training programmes should be essentially practical in nature, although they should also include an appropriate theoretical content, as indicated in the following outline of subjects recommended for inclusion.
