APRICOT PSEUDOPOX (VIRUELA) DISEASE |

| Abstract:
Apricot pseudopox or "viruela" disease is one of the most severe disease of apricots. The cause is the virus of the apple chlorotic leaf spot. The virus does not spread or in another words is has not a vector or if so it is not at all efficient. The disease affect the early varieties (Bulida, Galta Roja, Arrogante) while it is very difficult or imposible to observe on diseased fruits on tardiest varieties. The attacked apricots could have not any value and the economic incidence of the diseased trees vary from 20 to 80%. The "viruela" disease has been described in Spain but it occurs also in another countries like: France, Italy, Morocco, etc. The diseased fruits are very similar to those infected with "sharka" (plum pox) virus but the "viruela" ones have not any chlorotic rings neither on the epidermal or flesh not even on the pits. | |
