ISHS Acta Horticulturae 204: Postgraduate Training for development, XXII IHC

THE AUSTRALIAN EXPERIENCE IN POSTGRADUATE TRAINING FOR DEVELOPMENT

Author:   W. J. Greenhalgh
Abstract:
Australia directs approximately 0.49 per cent of its gross national product to aid programmes. Of a total of A$1000m of aid funds, some A$133m is for education and training. Agricultural training is much sought after for the reasons that Australia is the most recent of the continents to be developed for modern farming and because tuition at colleges and universities is free. Various agencies have been set up to administer aid programmes directed towards training of scholars and technicians from neighbouring countries. The measure of success achieved by these agencies in providing postgraduate training in horticulture, is reviewed.
