COHORT ANALYSIS AS A TOOL OF DEMAND PROJECTION FOR FOOD

Authors:   R.v. Alvensleben, B. Vierheilig
Abstract:
For a long time economists have explained the development of the demand for food mainly as a function of income and prices. In a highly developed and stagnating economy these factors are loosing while other factors like consumer attitudes are gaining relative importance as explanatory variables of consumer demand. In this situation the cohort analysis may be a tool to supplement traditional methods of demand analysis. The paper is discussing the concept of this method and presenting some results of long term simulation experiments.
