A SIMULATION MODEL FOR PLANNING AND CONTROL OF THE POTTED PLANT PRODUCTION

Author:   H.H. Buchwald
Abstract:
The paper outlines the development of a personal computer aided planning tool for growers and consultants in the potted plant production. To solve their planning problems the method of simulation is suitable. It enables to model the temporary and technical interdependencies of production which are mainly caused by the plant growth.

The simulation model allows to compute variable production methods by specifying the date and the kind of cultivation actions. This computation is based on growth functions and functions for the input of energy, labor and material.

The whole production plan of a firm is composed by combinating appropriate crop batches. By this the planner is enabled to introduce his own preferences. During the planning process the production plan will be changed step by step.

Beside the planning of production methods and progams the simulation model integrates the production control and provides for revisions of the initial plan. The plan revision is a characteristic of a dynamic planning tool and distinguishes it from traditional planning tools based on Linear Programming.
