EUROPEAN COMMUNITY ENLARGEMENT: IMPLICATIONS FOR U.S. COMPETITIVENESS IN PROCESSED PEACHES AND TOMATOES

Authors:   B. Schwartz, J.M. Love
Abstract:
U.S. trade in processed peaches and tomatoes has undergone significant changes in the last decade. An important factor in these changes has been the European Community, which is both the world's largest market for fruit and vegetables and an increasingly important supplier of these commodities. The accession of Spain and Portugal to the European Community is expected to affect U.S. competitiveness in international and U.S. markets through changes in EC production, policy and trade.
