WORK PHYSIOLOGICAL INVESTIGATIONS OF POTPLANT HANDLING ON THE GROUND

Authors:   G. Stoffert, U. Wildt
Abstract:
The height of the hands of a standing person is about 75 cm above ground level. In horticulture, workers have to do much hand work on or near the ground in many different working positions. The physical work load of three methods of handling pot plants on the ground was assessed by recording the heart rate, the heart rate arrhythm and oxygen uptake in resting and working situations. With these ergonomic data it was possible to rank the physical work loads of the handling methods. However, the isometric contraction of muscles, which is important in such working methods, was only partly measured by these methods of analysis.
