Abstract:
Cultivars of apple, peach, strawberry, grape, loquat, and blueberry were introduced into Barbados and grown at elevations from sea level to 250 meters.
Variation in adaptability among species and cultivars was evident.
Continuous warmth did not trigger the plant's chilling requirement mechanisms; rather, flowering and fruiting occurred after drought induced dormancy of a variable minimum length.
Pollination characteristics were erratic when compared to temperate conditions.
Fruit tended to be undersized but of excellent quality.
