CULTURAL AND CHEMICAL PRACTICES TO INDUCE UNIFORM BUD BREAK OF PEACH AND APPLE UNDER WARM CLIMATES IN MEXICO.

Authors:   D.H. Díaz, A. Alvarez, J. Sandoval
Abstract:
Various cultural and chemical practices improved bud breaking performance of low chilling peaches and apples in an area with 210 chill units at 50m elevation. Where no autumn leaf drop occurs, chemical defoliation of peach by zinc sulphate and of apple by copper sulphate or urea, enhanced bud opening. For apple, the results were better than for defoliation by hand. Late pruning and delayed irrigation strongly influenced bud break of peach.

Mineral oil plus DNOC or DNOSBF stimulated bud opening of peach and apple, while thiourea adversely affected peach flowers. Hydrogen cyanamide induced early and heavy flowering of peach, depending on time of application.
