Abstract:
In order to find new varieties, to create other alternatives for the production of table grapes, and to determine which varieties behaved best under our conditions, an introductory program was started at this research station in 1977. A total of 77 varieties of table and wine grapes were brought from the United States of America, Italy, Spain, Germany and France.
The following have been evaluated for between six and twelve growth cycles: yield per plant, production cycle, bud burst properties, bud fruitfulness, susceptibility to diseases, and raceme and berry characteristics.
The sugar content, pH and acidity of the juices of wine varieties were evaluated and small amounts of wine were produced to determine their characteristics.
The results indicate that the Danam and Ribol varieties are promising for table grapes, and French Colombard, Ugni Blanc (= Trebianno Toscano) and Inzolio for wine.
